# Sommos

> Sommos is a family storytelling platform launching on iOS in fall 2026. It solves the "4,000 photos and you don't know the story behind most of them" problem by giving families one central place — the Arkive — to keep voices, stories, and the context family memory usually loses across devices, group chats, and old phones.

## What Sommos is

Sommos is a daily ritual app for families who want to actually know each other. Each day, every family member receives one warm question ("a Spark") written for their family. They record a two-minute voice answer when convenient. The recording is transcribed by Deepgram, and Claude generates a short reflection (the "Held") that names what the story is really about. All voices and stories accumulate in a private family Arkive — searchable, organized by question and person, and yours forever.

Eventually, families can use the Arkive for more than daily Sparks: interviews, recorded stories, voice memos of grandparents, occasions, and any voice or memory a family wants kept somewhere central.

## Who it's for

The primary user is the "sandwich generation" — adults aged 35–58 raising children while also helping aging parents. The pain Sommos solves: family memory is scattered across phones, drives, cameras, and group chats no one scrolls back to. Voices fade. Stories never get asked. The kids will grow up knowing their grandparents from photos instead of voices.

## What makes Sommos different from StoryWorth, Remento, etc.

- **Daily ritual, not annual book.** StoryWorth is weekly with a yearly printed book. Sommos is a daily 2-minute touch.
- **Voice-first, not text-first.** Sommos preserves the actual voice — the way someone tells a story is half the story. Most competitors convert voice to text and ship a book.
- **AI reflection.** Every story comes back with what was underneath — the part the speaker didn't know they were telling. Built on Claude with a careful prompt design.
- **Family-shared, not solo.** Every member contributes. The Arkive is the family's, not one person's.
- **Pattern recognition across stories.** When multiple family members answer the same Spark, Sommos surfaces what their stories share.
